Koushun was the first lieutenant of Tsubaki, leader of a gang of twenty-five bandits. They attacked a caravan and stole several lacquered boxes which contained priceless original work of long-dead artisans, but during the assault they found themselves ambushed by superior forces of Seppun Magistrates. Along the survivors were the bandit leader and other seven bandits. The second lieutenant Tsuda went back to find Shoda and Hiro, but when he returned with Imperial forces revealed himself as Ujina Tsuda. All the gang was captured or killed.
