The Scholar's Garden was a subsection of the main walking garden within a Rokugani palace. It primarily featured stones, with few flowers, no pools or ponds, merely a small stream or spring. These gardens were places for serene meditation or for intellectual or theological debate, and they were also favored as places for artists to show their works. The most revered Scholar's Garden in the Empire was found in Kyuden Miya.
