Because it stayed neutral in the war, the USSR was much stronger vis-a-vis the other nations ATL. For starters, Stalin died in a car accident, which led to a power struggle between the Governor of the Ukraine, Khrushchev, Leonid Brezhnev and Vladimir Kosygin. Ultimately, Khrushchev won over and allowed Trotsky to return from Exile in America (Stalin's assassination attempt failed, since Trotsky was writing in San Francisco due to Mexico's totalitarianism) and offered him the position as chairman, which he declined, saying that "i wish for new leaders to come, not for an old ghost like me dragging back the people", but his advice was still heeded by future Soviet leaders.
