William James Shapland Squires (1850 - 2 July 1931) was a businessman and local politician in the Woolwich area. He entered business as a bookseller and stationer, with two shops in Woolwich. He retired from business in 1917. He was chairman of the Woolwich Equitable Building Society for many years. Squires served on Woolwich Local Board of Health, Board of Guardians and Metropolitan Borough Council, and served two terms as Mayor of Woolwich in 1906-1907 and 1907-1908. A Woolwich ferry boat, built in 1922, was named the Squires after him.
