Colonel Gerould was a Barrayaran officer who fought on Aral Vorkosigan's side during Vordarian's Pretendership. He took part in heavy fighting in Marigrad, where opposing forces altered their uniforms to keep from shooting their friends. His side wore an arm band of brown and white to match Vorkosigan livery, the others wore arm bands of red and yellow to match Vordarian's. Aral Vorkosigan ordered him and his co-fighters to take off their arm bands so as to be the ones who were fighting for their emperor.
