As part of their offering, the SFBC commissioned exclusive editions of novels, including hardback editions of paperback releases and omnibus collection of series that were otherwise not produced. These releases included a number of Star Trek novels and reference works originally published by Bantam Books, E.P. Dutton, and Pocket Books; the first such release was an edition of the Star Fleet Technical Manual in July 1976 .
