Julia Scianti was the curator of the Scianti Museum of Art and member of the Scianti Crime Family which included father Albert Scianti, brother Joey, and cousin Sal Castelli. In 1989 Julia purchased from Metro-Dade Detective Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs a copy of a Kostabi painting, then sells it again at auction. Later, when she learned her brother and cousin was planning to sell the 15th century triptych The Madonna of the Spirits for drugs instead of money, Julia became disgusted, saying her family "doesn't appreciate fine art", then takes the real Madonna and substitutes a copy that Joey took to sell, but when the deal collapses with the death of Joey by the buyer, NYPD Detective Jeffrey Whitehead, Castelli and Whitehead were arrested, and Detective James "Sonny" Crockett traces the Madonna to
