The Third Doctor first visited the facility when he was investigating a mysterious threat facing the inhabitants of the moor. There he examined Doris Squire, the wife of a local farmer. She had been admitted for shock following her husband's death. The Doctor drew a simple representation of a Silurian, and judged her fearful reaction to be positive identification of a Silurian menace.
