During Day 9, Wei was the President of China, as well as a member of the Politburo committee. After the accidental sinking of the Shenyang by an American submarine, President James Heller contacted Wei to assure him that the action had not been authorized by the U.S. chain of command, but rather via Cheng Zhi's intrusion into the country's defense grid. President Wei, under pressure from his colleagues in the Politburo, mobilized Chinese air and naval forces for an attack on an American base on Okinawa; however, he agreed to recall the attack after Jack Bauer managed to produce Cheng and prove that he was in fact still alive.
