The Battle of Aleppo () is an ongoing military confrontation in Aleppo, Syria between the Free Syrian Army and its allies and the Syrian government. The battle began on 19 July 2012 as a part of the Syrian civil war. Clashes escalated in late July in Syria's largest city that holds great strategic and economic importance. The battle's scale and importance led combatants to name it the "mother of all battles".
