The 1999 Australian Grand Prix was the first round of the 1999 Formula One Season. It was held at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit, Albert Park, Melbourne on the weekend of 5–7 March 1999. The race was won by Ferrari driver, Eddie Irvine – the Northern-Irishman's first win. Irvine was followed home by Heinz-Harald Frentzen, only a second behind. Ralf Schumacher, in his first race for Williams, completed the podium. Spanish débutant, Pedro de la Rosa, finished an impressive sixth on his first F1 drive.
