Sir George Barclay Bruce (1 October 1821 - 25 August 1908) was a civil engineer. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne he spent most of his professional life working on railway projects worldwide. In 1856 he was forced to return to the United Kingdom by ill health, and established a consultancy in Westminster. A member of the Presbyterian Church and deeply interested in public education, from 1882 to 1885 he was a member of the London School Board, representing Marylebone. Bruce died at his home at St John's Wood in 1908, aged 86, and was buried in Highgate Cemetery.
