In my view, individual freedom lies in the center of the social/economic representation. If you move to the left or the right you move away from individual freedom. The extreme left gives us Castro's Cuba, North Korea, the old Soviet Union, and to a lesser extent China. The extreme right gives us Islamic fundamentalist dictatorships. A political system based on egalitarianism or religion doesn't allow for individual freedom. Playing with the terms left and right doesn't change this fundamental premise.
