"Greater Wellington" is the trading name or "brand" of the body legally known as "Wellington Regional Council". Several of the country's regional councils have brand names. The name: * includes a positive aspiration * is a passable reflexion of the council's coverage, except that it does not specifically indicate that the region not only covers the four cities and the Kapiti Coast District but also extends across the ranges to include the three Wairarapa districts: South Wairarapa District, Carterton District, and Masterton District.
