Rod Halstead was the arson investigator who ruled a warehouse fire that Johanna Beckett was looking into an accident. Many years later, in an attempt to get her mother's case re-opened, Beckett contacts him, hoping that he might feel there was something he could have overlooked or suspicious activity, which would justify a reappraisal of the whole case. Halstead, however, is offended by the insinuation, and orders the duo out of his fire station.
