Huitzilopochtli, also known as Uitzilopochtli, is an Aztec god of war, sun, human sacrifice and the patron of the city of Tenochtitlan. His mother was Coatlicue and his father Mixcoatl, nevertheless, in one of the creation myths he is listed as a son of Ometeotl. His legend tells that, because he was conceived in a shameful way (by a ball of feathers), Coyolxauhqui (his sister) wanted to kill their mother before he was even born. Huitzilopochtli aware of this even while in his mother`s womb, sprang from inside it fully grown and armed and killed his sister and many of his brothers. Afterwards he threw his sister`s head to the sky, where it became the moon, and did the same with the heads of his brothers, which became the stars.
