Ferrum essum split from it's ancestor for a more sedentary lifestyle. They evolved to live exclusively on the shores of the great mars sea. They feed mainly on the iron in the soil, converting it into organic compound in their complex and impressive organelle resembling modified mitochondria. They have also evolved an unusual method of locomotion. Their “wings” bend towards their body, and then quickly return to their previous position. They repeat this rapidly to move at impressive speeds.
