Jack McVitie was Jim Taggart's boss and the superintendent of Strathclyde Police. He is played by Iain Anders, f irst appeared in Murder In Season as Jim's boss. He suffered a myocardial infarction (Heart attack) in Prayer for the Dead. He was visited by Jean in hospital. In the same episode, his wife was revealed to be called Marjorie. He missed Jim's funeral in Black Orchid due to ill health. His final episode was Dead Reckoning in 1998 and not long afterwards Detective Inspector Robbie Ross joined the team.
