Following the Swedish victory against Denmark and the successful storming of Copenhagen, the Danish Kingdom was incorporated into the Swedish empire. The Swedes now start to cooperate with the Dutch Republic although relations in the beginning were frosty and sometimes hostile, The Dutch saw that Swedish wealth could help to create a maritime empire and even today after the collapse of the European colonial empires and the rise of nationalism, Sweden and the Dutch Republic remain close allies.
