In the Middle Ages, the pantry was the room for making bread (pain in French; pan in Spanish) and storing related supplies. Pantries became less popular in the 18 and 1900s, but are now becoming a more desired home feature. Because of the association of pantries and food storage, some stores, food donation spots and other food suppliers use the word pantry in their name.
