Shamisen complains to a seemingly sentient dragonfly about how life is difficult for a male calico cat. He especially complains about noisy female humans, whom he regards as fickle. A pair of children gave him to Yuki Nagato, whom Shamisen believed was "different"; he could sense she was an alien. Nagato played with him for a bit, then abruptly dropped him and told him to play with Haruhi Suzumiya. The previous pair of children overheard Nagato's instructions and believed they were meant for them. Nagato appeared to understand Shamisen's speech, but did not respond.
