At the 2011 New York Hell's Kitchen Film Festival, the film was a 2011 Official Selection, Winner of the 2011 Special Jury Prize for Best Actor and an Official Selection for New York Filmmakers. Variety calls the film an "unlikely love story" and Hollywood.com states, "A Solid Flick. Highly Recommended!" The character Alex is loosely based on a real individual from a documentary Carlson directed back in 1999. The other characters are entirely fictional.
