Vespa velutina is a medium sized hornet (only slightly smaller than vespa crabro). Vespa velutina is the most aggressive species of hornet, not letting anything approach the nest. These hornets when defending the nest will come out swarming and they have been know to chase long distances. The main prey for the species are some fly species, bees, smaller wasps and other insects.
