The 1971–72 Division 2 season was the second tier of ice hockey in Sweden for 1971–72. The league consisted of 80 teams, divided into eight geographical groups of 10 teams apiece. The eight group winners continued to a promotion/relegation qualifier, which also involved the two fourth-placed teams from each of the Swedish Division I's qualification rounds (the fifth-placed squads were relegated directly).
