It was revealed on the Naruto 10th Anniversary site and it was first shown along the preview of Three-Tails' Appearance. A lengthy preview of the movie was shown during Japan Expo 2009 in France, featuring French subtitles. The North America version was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on October 23, 2012.
