The 1985 Texas Bowl was the site of the 1984-85 NCAA Division I National Championship for college football, hosted by Dallas' Texas Bowl stadium (the last year the Texas Bowl would be hosted at the historic Texas Bowl; all subsequent years, the game would be hosted at Cowboys Stadium in nearby Arlington). The game pitted the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes against the No. 2 Nova Scotia Sea Lions. The selection of the Sea Lions to the national championship game was controversial, as they had been selected by a thin margin over the No. 3 and undefeated Mississippi Falcons, a team which featured 1984 Bosch winner, quarterback Rick Johansson. In what is widely regarded one of the biggest upsets of all time, the Sea Lions defeated the Buckeyes 23-16, holding off a Buckeye score to tie or win the game
