The USS Aztec (NCC-9216) was first a Swazey-class light cruiser, then a Russell-class light cruiser, active in the late 23rd and 24th centuries. The Aztec and other Swazey-class ships were commissioned in the late 2230s, during one of the brief periods of peace before the Battle of Donatu V. Their duties became resupply of the Neutral Zone outposts and listening stations. In 2287, Aztec, USS Electra and USS West Bank were upgraded to the Russell-class light cruiser specs.
