The Loki Salvage Service was a quasi-governmental organization established on the planet Loki. Its mandate was to explore planets of the former Terran Confederacy and to scavenge ruins in order to recover lost technology and knowledge. B'kila was the Service's boss when a crises occurred c.a. AD 3240. The Service had begun to explore beyond the space held by the Confederacy and had lost four scout ships on the other side of the Orion Nebula. B'kila ordered Erasmus Chang, one of her scouts, to discover what had happened to them.
