The Battle of East Belfast was the first engaged battle between the Irish Armed Forces and the New Ulster Army in the Irish Civil War. Prior to the battle, the Irish Army pulled out of their barracks which is situated in East Belfast due to the increased NUA presence. This stimulated the NUA who were heavily armed and ready to fight. The Irish Army set up a perimeter around East Belfast and then prepared to enter East Belfast to kill off the threat.
