Jerezian (/dʒerezian/) is a Romance language spoken in the island of Jereza on the Southern Mediterranaen Sea. It was brought by immigrants from Roman Catalonia, North Africa and Corsica in the first half of the 5th century. The language evolved especially under Muslim and Spanish rule. Loans of Afro-Asiatic origin (mainly Arabic and later Berber and Maltese) are shared along with loans from Coptic, Occtican, Greek, French, Catalan, Albanian, Basque and even Turkish. It mainly diverges directly from Classical Latin like Aleña, and it is closley related to it than other Romance languages although it was partially evovled from Vulgar Latin.
