A mayose is a powerful spell cast by Kikyō to lure in the Zushinezumi and purify them. Kikyō draws a star in the ground and plants a single branch of ōkatama. She then channels her spiritual energy and causes the branch to grow rapidly into a gigantic tree. Low-level demons are attracted to the tree and will climb to its branches, which are shrouded in a purifying mist. The demons are therefore purified upon reaching the top. The spell is stated by Miroku to be an extremely powerful spell that only someone of Kikyō's level of power could produce.
