Karen Silkwood is environmental movement martyr. Born on February 19, 1946, Silkwood was a labor activist and chemical technician at the Kerr-McGee plant near Crescent, Oklahoma. Silkwood's work involved producing plutonium pellets for reactor fuel rods. Her death on November 13, 1974 continues to arouse suspicion that she was murdered for her environmental activism.
