Chuda Serimon was an old shugenja member of the Snake Clan. He was covered in scars, the most prominent of which divided his mouth and trailed down his neck, leaving a milky left eye. In 1171 he challenged Isawa Fosuta for the Onyx Championship, but he was dead before the fight began. Fosuta had heard Serimon would challenge him and somehow managed to poison the Chuda.
