St. Martin Luther, Doctor and Reformer of the Church, was a Catholic Theologist and main proponent of the Reformation hence his title. Luther opposed the corruption of the Papacy and instituted the Germanic Rite of the Catholic Church, which soon became common in much of Northern Europe. His reformations, while mostly theological, also led to a modernization of the Church, mainly of the role of the Papacy, whose role as temporal ruler, surrounded by the corruption of terrestial power, dismissed his lead as spiritual leader of the Catholic Church.
