One of the city's most deprived districts, regneration has been ongoing since trhe late 1980s. The Niddrie Marischal area was first to be razed. It's tenements and high rises were demolished in the early 1990s and low rise homes were built in their place. Niddrie Mains was demolished in the late 1990s into the 2000s. Parts of the scheme have been rebuilt but most of it is derelict land as of present.
