However, following the return of the brand extension in Season 10, the title became exclusive to Smackdown after John Cena was drafted there during his title reign. It was unified with the World Heavyweight Championship at the start of Season 9, ending the World Heavyweight Championship's lineage, and the title was referred to as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship until the announcement of the brand extension's return in Season 10.
