Daunorubicin is a chemotherapy drug, used to treat several forms of leukemia and Kaposi's Sarcoma. Side effects are typical of chemotherapy drugs and include hair loss, vomiting and bone marrow suppression. More rarely, it can cause heart damage and necrosis at the injection site. Because of this later issue, the drug must only be taken Intravenously with the entire dose being administered quickly instead of over a long period of time. The drug works by interfering with an enzyme that duplicates DNA prior to cell division.
