On New Year's Eve, the ball drops along with the countdown to the new year. It reaches the bottom at the exact moment of the new year. In an effort to set them up on a date, Mary Jane Watson suggested that Peter Parker take Gwen Stacy to see the ball drop. However, she was kidnapped and he saved her as Spider-Man. Instead of being together, they went to their respective homes to rest from the ordeal.
