Bunta was born to unknown parents on a small village near the border of the Land of Fire. One day, both of his parents were travelling, and after walking for a undisclosed distance, they abandoned the then-infant Bunta nearby the road, and returned to their village. Later that same day, Shima, who was looking for supplies, found Bunta and feeling pity on the baby, took him back to Mount Myōboku, where she, along with her husband Fukasaku, raised the boy in hopes of making a talented shinobi, while also giving him the name Bunta.
