Robert Doolittle "Doc" Newton (September 10, 1911 - July 14, 1984) was a prominent American politician and lawyer from Georgia, best known for his time as a Senator from 1951 until his death in 1984. He served as the extremely powerful Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee from 1965 until 1973, when he was elevated to Senate Majority Leader in a conservative revolt amongst the Democrats.
