As a public teaching hospital, Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) runs a free clinic. Doctors who work at the hospital are required to put in a minimum number of hours working at the clinic. In the Pilot, we learn that Dr. House has not performed any clinic duty since he started working at PPTH. When he continues to refuse, Dr. Cuddy cuts off his hospital privileges until he starts making up the time. In the pilot episode, House said his missed time in the clinic will be made up by 2054.
