Lieutenant Nielsen was the commander of Company G of the 1st Infantry Division, 16th Infantry Regiment. Around April, 1950 Pvt. Joseph Capelli shared some foul words with Lt. Nielsen, whom was Capelli's commanding officer, which resulted in Capelli being dishonorably discharged out of the Army by Sgt. Paul Rivelle.
