Joshua Lurie was a former classmate of Hamilton Voss/Amanda Reed and also the one responsible for switching Voss's DNA at an accident where Voss had supposedly died. Fearing that Lurie would break or go to the authorities, Voss later murdered Lurie, disguising Lurie's death to resemble a car accident so that Voss could avoid being prosecuted for stealing money from the Navy, as the Navy believed they were looking for a man named Hamilton Voss who had apparently died in a car crash, not realizing that he was still alive.
