The 2070 Atlantic hurricane season was an above average season in terms of named storms, but a below average season in terms of hurricanes, major hurricanes and accumulated cyclone energy (ACE). 18 tropical cyclones formed, including 16 named storms, 5 of which reached hurricane strength and only one of which reached major hurricane strength (Oglethorpe). The overall below average activity was attributed to a weak El Nino event, but nonetheless 16 named storms still formed. The strongest storm of the season, Oglethorpe, struck New Jersey as a major hurricane and was the only hurricane of the season to make landfall in the United States.
