The Gavel Channel is mentioned by Det. Schanke in the episode, "Capital Offense". It is presumably a special-interest channel on cable television. When an escaped murderer from Texas, Laura Garfield, is arrested in Toronto, Schanke tells his partner, Nick Knight, that she has become a media celebrity. In evidence, he points out that, while on death row, Garfield was interviewed by Barbara Walters. He is sure that the interview was shown on the Gavel Channel, and that his wife, Myra, has it on tape.
