The Long Island Electric Railway was a streetcar system that operated in Queens and Nassau Counties in New York State. The company received its corporate charter in 1894, and three years later began service. In 1926 bankruptcy caused the abandonment of the Nassau segments, while the Queens routes were continued, with the reorganized company using the name Jamaica Central Railways. By 1933, The City of New York granted a bus franchise service to Jamaica Buses, Inc. to operate bus routes replacing the JCR's streetcar lines.
