Alec Pomeroy (born 1936) was the son of Mort and Mary McGregor Pomeroy. He was named for his uncle, Alexander McGregor. Due to his unruly nature, he was nicknamed "Hellraiser" by his parents. He lost his mother in 1942 when she was executed on a number of charges of terrorism. He lost his father the following year during the Canadian resistance movement's defence of Rosenfeld, Manitoba. Young Alec was the only survivor of the US Army's destruction of a rebel strongpoint in Pomeroy's Diner. He escaped the diner missing the first joint of his pinky. The wound was bandaged by Armstrong Grimes, whom young Pomeroy insulted despite his kindness.
