The Fifth Directorate was one of many codenames for a top secret SIGINT unit of Starfleet Intelligence. The group, which had many different code names, was active during the Dominion War and was involved in many different intelligence gathering operations during that war. The proper name of the unit, in addition to its members, composition and operations, was only known to the highest echelons of Starfleet Intelligence and the Federation Intelligence Service.
