The Penatateuch, also called the Torah, is the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The Pentateuch narrates from the creation of the universe to the arrival of the Israelites in the land of Canaan. Many religious Christians and Jews believe that the Pentateuch was written by Moses with the text either inspired or dictated by God. Many secular scholars believe that the Pentateuch was compiled as part of four main sources J, E, P and D.
