Captain Murdos was in orbit of Qo'noS and the Chancellor and the Klingon High Council saw him off on his maiden voyage as captain of the IKS Devastator to patrol the Romulan Neutral Zone. What Captain Murdos did not know was that the Devastator's escape pods were not yet installed. When the Devastator approached the Romulan Neutral Zone, she struck two gravitic mines. The engineer told Captain Murdos that there was a possibility of a warp core breach and ship explosion. Both Captain Murdos and the engineer knew that they had to nurse the ship back to Qo'noS.
